The University of San Francisco’s Center for Business Studies and Innovation in Asia-Pacific (CBSI) invites the University community to an April 18th panel discussion entitled “Women, Empowerment and the Growth and Expansion of the Middle Class across Asia.” Panelists include Darlene Chiu Bryant (Founder and Executive Director, GlobalSf), Christina Bui (Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Kylan Ventures), and Paramita Bhattacharya (Chief Marketing Officer, Sortly). The discussion will be moderated by USF professor Dr. Bruce Pickering (Senior Policy Advisor and former Executive Director, Asia Society).
The last 30 years have experienced one of the greatest transformations in human history as nearly all Asian nations have seen the increasing movement of individuals and families from poverty and marginal economic participation to middle class societies and participants in the global economy. Increased educational opportunities and technical training are a part of the story, but the increasing participation of women in the workforce has been one of the most important drivers of the increasing prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. This discussion will focus on the rapid transformation within the region and the role of women in enabling that transformation.
