ISAP’s International Trade Career Path

On Monday, November 7th, ISAP presented “The International Trade Career Path,” the program’s hallmark panel talk of the Fall 2022 semester. ISAP was honored to have Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia, Pamela Phan, from the U.S. Department of Commerce speak to students regarding the unique experiences and career opportunities in the federal government.

Opening remarks were given by the Director of the Center for Business Studies and Innovation in Asia-Pacific, Xiaohua Yang, followed by an opening introduction on behalf of the University and Father Paul Fitzgerald by Vice Provost of Equity, Inclusion, and Faculty Excellence, Sheila McKoy Ph.D.

Ms. Phan and the team from the U.S. Commercial Service shared critical insights into what a career in public service looks like. DAS Phan shared her experience in academia, the private sector, and the public sector– with emphasis and guidance to students on being flexible and open to new career paths. Students in attendance received internship opportunities to pursue their interests and gain experience in the federal government.

The program concluded with remarks from the Mclaren School of Management’s Associate Dean, Michelle Millar, and a networking session at Maloy Hall’s Madonna Lounge.
