On June 1st, 2021, the China Business Studies Initiative at the University of San Francisco (co-sponsored by the Bay Area Council) hosted a webinar titled: Bay Area and China Relations Under the Biden Administration: Fireside Chat with USF President Paul Fitzgerald and BAC President Jim Wunderman.
Sean Randolph (senior director of the Bay Area Council Economic Institute) introduced the topic for discussion and Peter Lorentzen (Professor of economics/CBSI executive board member) moderated the session. The panel featured two prominent Bay Area leaders: Rev. Paul J Fitzgerald (USF President) and Mr. Jim Wunderman (Bay Area Council President).
The event opened with Dr. Xiaohua Yang, the Director of China Business Studies Initiative, welcoming everyone and Mr. Randolph introducing the big picture of the US- China’s economic and political relations. Panelists discussed how the Biden administration has already impacted Bay Area and China relations, and possible impacts in the future. They covered the topics including the interest Chinese companies have towards the Bay Area, the historical role Bay Area has played as a source of knowledge and education for Chinese students, changes of views towards China in the last few years, and how businesses are hoping that the Biden administration will try to restore the economic relationship with China. The panelists also entertained a Q&A session at the end.
