(April 25, 2023) At the invitation of the University of San Francisco’s Center for Business Studies and Innovation in Asia-Pacific (CBSI) and advisory board member Professor Bruce Pickering, Ambassador Larry Greenwood spoke with students and others in the University community about the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum and the role international development organizations have played in the region’s increasing prosperity. As a former ambassador to APEC and longtime foreign service in Asia, Ambassador Greenwood shared fascinating firsthand accounts of APEC’s history and influence, as well as that of other organizations such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Ambassador Greenwood’s presentation was both timely and informative. In November 2023, San Francisco will host the APEC Economic Leaders and CEO Summit, an important annual gathering of heads of state, policy makers and business leaders. Focused on creating economic opportunity, the APEC Summit will bring CEOs, entrepreneurs, thought leaders and other stakeholders together with the most senior political leaders from throughout the Asia-Pacific region to discuss global opportunities and challenges shaping economic, environmental, and societal trends in the region. Ambassador Greenwood’s talk was one of many events CBSI will present in advance of the APEC Summit.
In addition to his work with APEC, Ambassador Greenwood is a former Vice President at the Asian Development Bank, current Chair of the Board of the Japan Society of Northern California, and senior advisor with the strategic advisory firm Bower Group Asia. We are deeply honored that he recently joined CBSI as an Advisory Board member.
