(March 1, 2023) Philippine Consulate General Neil Frank R. Ferrer, accompanied by Trade Commissioner Celynne P. Layug and Consul Vanessa Bago-Llona, visited the University of San Francisco, first meeting with USF President Paul J. Fitzgerald, S.J. and later with a CBSI team led by Center Director Dr. Xiaohua Yang. They were joined by students from USF’s Filipino Student Association and others. Reflections were shared about the Philippines’ longstanding friendship with and ties to the United States.
With preliminary plans made for Consulate General Ferrer to return to USF and talk before a larger group on campus, CBSI will continue to explore opportunities that showcase the Philippines, its vital role both in the Asia-Pacific region and on the world stage, and its strong partnership with the University of San Francisco. USF has a student exchange program with Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines, a Jesuit university founded in 1859. Additionally, USF’s Maria Elena G. Yuchengco Philippine Studies Program, which provides students an interdisciplinary minor focusing on the cultures and history of the Philippine diaspora, is among the few Philippine Studies programs in the United States.
Thank you Consulate General Ferrer, Commissioner Layug and Consul Bago-Llona for your visit and strong support of both USF and CBSI.
